Words Matter

JEFFREY SOPP

The words we choose to use in conversation have always been important, and the era of remote work and distant interaction has taught us that words matter on a level we might not have realized before. How often have you said something and wished you could take it back? How often have you given the best directives and encouragement you could think of, only to discover much later that you were misunderstood? Having spent my career in executive boardrooms, working with and among decision-makers who must always communicate effectively, I have seen firsthand how a single word or phrase can make or break a deal, a relationship, or a person’s productivity. Born from these experiences, Words Matter arrives as a stylized reference guide for all the most important words a leader might use—not just in their professional lives, but with family and friends as well. This book will help you become more thoughtful about how you communicate, not only during times of stress and crisis, but also in times of encouragement and praise. Words Matter will show you how to approach the most important words in the professional lexicon, when to use them, and how to use them well.

“In a word, brilliant! This book has so many great nuggets for leaders (or anyone who wants to grow their communication skills). I have read a lot of business books and this book ranks among the best!”
